Small Business Saturday

We are all familiar with Black Friday, but have you heard about Small Business Saturday?

Small Business Saturday is celebrated the Saturday following Thanksgiving every year. There are some key similarities and differences between Black Friday and Small Business Saturday.

Black Friday is all about being the first person through the door to score mega savings on everything from home appliances to the hottest new gaming systems.

Small Business Saturday, on the other hand, is all about supporting the Mom and Pop stores on Main Street. Most businesses will still offer big sales and reduced prices, but they are often not as significant as large corporations can offer.

Following in the footsteps of companies like REI, the SOM Footwear factory and outlet store will both be closed on Thanksgiving day. We want our team members to be able to enjoy the holiday with their loved ones, not worrying about how many pairs of shoes we can sell on Thanksgiving Day. Our employees will actually have the entire weekend off and we encourage all of them to go out and support our local businesses on Small Business Saturday.

Since we won't be in the factory on Small Business Saturday, we have decided to celebrate a week early this year with a three day Clear the Warehouse event. This Thursday, Friday and Saturday (11/19/15-11/21/15) our outlet store and factory will be open to the public from 10am-5pm. We will have discounted "factory seconds", previous generation shoes and our latest models for sale. You can also meet the creators of SOM Footwear and get a free factory tour during the event. We are located at 1006 N Cascade Ave in beautiful Montrose, Colorado. If you are in the area, stop by and take advantage of these deals while they last!

Every town celebrates Small Business Saturday differently. What does your town do to support small business? Tell us in the comments below, or send an email to somteam@somfootwear.com.
